Tazocin is an antibiotic that contains piperacillin sodium
and tazobactam sodium. Piperacillin sodium targets gram
positive, gram negative, and anaerobic organisms by inhibiting
their cell wall synthesis. Tazobactam sodium is an agent
that inhibits beta-lactamase which would otherwise make
the organism resistant to piperacillin. Therefore, Tazocin
is a broad spectrum antibiotic which is effective also
in treating infection caused by beta-lactamase forming
organisms.
